Psalm 8 Dominion

As our consciousness becomes more refined, we attain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the magnificence of God and our responsibility to serve God. We see evidence of the nature of God (name) in little doses in everyday things. These experiences are intended to fuel the desire to know more.

Complete understanding of the fullness of God (glory) is revealed to us only in spiritual consciousness (heavens). When we approach our spiritual journey, we must do so in childlike wonderment (out of the mouths of babes and infants). Children are like sponges; they absorb all information that they are given. Likewise we must absorb the knowledge that revealed to us. This is the only way to silence the ego and personal will (the enemy and the avenger).

Psalm 104 Divine Creativity

We have the opportunity to participate in the field of Divine creativity each and every day. God is constantly reaching towards us (laying the beams of his chambers). We need only be receptive. This current of life imparts divine ideas (messengers) and the cleansing and purifying activity of the Holy Spirit (fire and flames your ministers).

Psalm 97 Right Relationship

When we allow ourselves to acknowledge the presence and power of God in our lives, we begin the process of understanding our relationship with God.

God is in our consciousness surrounded by mystery (clouds and thick darkness). Despite this mystery, we are given a clear path by the Presence and Power of the Christ within us. Once we understand our right relationship with God (righteousness) and constructively call the laws of Mind into action (justice), we can approach the throne. We can only come forward in the knowledge that we are each children of God, inheritors of the fullness God's estate.

Psalm 67 Deliverance To

So often we think of God’s saving grace as something that lifts us out from things that we consider undesirable. I think this is because so many of us only turn to God when things get bad and we feel we cannot handle it ourselves. But this is only half the story. These verses remind us that the from implies a to. Being saved is not only deliverance from “bad things,” it must be also understood as delivered to an abundance of good.

Psalm 32 Our Sins

Do your sins define who you are? Are they opportunities for you to learn and grow? Or do you hide your sins from yourself and others to maintain a facade? To sin is merely “to miss the mark” and we are all constantly doing that. How we process our missteps is just as important as the actual sin.

It is important to remember that we must acknowledge our sins before we can be healed of them. What does that mean? It does not mean that we wallow in them, feel guilty about them, give them power over us, or punish ourselves over them. It merely means that we must delve deep enough within our consciousness to know they are there. We cannot heal a trait that we do not recognize. As the psalmist says, we try to hide our iniquities from God. In reality, God is omniscient and so we have really only tried to hide our sins from ourselves.

Psalm 63 Hunger and Thirst

When making a commitment to the spiritual journey and actively seeking God, we literally tap into the strong human craving to reconnect with Spirit (my soul clings to you). This basic need is frequently described as hunger and thirst. For all human beings this desire is present, and it is a basic compulsion in us all. Unfortunately, most of us do not understand that this underlying discontent that we all feel is a spiritual need. So we set off to placate the urge with things physical, emotional and mental. But these cannot quench the thirst; only the spiritual journey can do that. So we see many people in orgiastic relationships with sex, falling in love, money and intellectual theories. But at their core they remain discontented because they have not reached towards the heart of the problem. In all of us there is a core yearning that can only be satiated by spiritual enlightenment and a relationship with God.

Psalm 27 Spiritual Warfare

When we are in the middle of difficult circumstances, there is nothing more powerful than knowing that God is there with us and that all is well. Our needs are already known and supplied. We do not have to ask God for anything, we merely have to open our minds to the knowledge that there is only God in our life and bless our circumstances. In the knowledge and understanding of our rightful place as children of God, what should we fear? If all that is God’s is ours, how can there be any lack? 

If God is for us, who is against us? (Rom 8:31)

Psalm 91 Protection

To live in the shelter of the Most High and abide in the shadow of the Almighty, means to turn our life over to God and turn our thoughts to Spiritual things.

When we dwell in the consciousness of the Christ, we dwell in the house of the Lord. By turning our thoughts to Truth, we establish the seeds of faith (v. 2). Once we have faith there is no fear, for in the spiritual realm the opposite of fear is faith, not courage. But it is our choice to “make our home in God.”

Psalm 99 Mystery and the Sacred Life

What does it mean to live a sacred life? At its heart is a single principle:  to engage the world from the the Christ presence within us. We are created in God’s image and likeness, and as such our thought life (peoples) and physical life (earth) were created for the purpose of serving God. Spirit protects that divine spark within each an every one of us (he sits enthroned upon the cherubim). We only have to ask to be shown its magnitude, but that spark is always lit, no matter how dim the light appears to us.

Psalm 36 Unbounded Love

So often we define God’s love by our limited human ideas of what it means to be loved. But love in the divine sense is at the same time similar to and very different from human love. Sometimes I think of it this way: take the highest and healthiest aspects of human love and expand. God’s love is the impulse to oneness or unity. It is the knowledge that we are all of one Source and the feelings, thoughts and actions that come from that understanding.

Psalm 29 Renewal and Glorification

In order to glorify the Lord, we must understand God. This is a difficult concept to convey in words because typically when we think of understanding, it implies some intellectual or analytical exercise. Spiritual understanding does not have this connotation.

Psalm 148 The Rejuvenating Activity of Praise

Prayer and praise change people, not God.  To praise God essentially requires us to willingly put God at the center of our lives. We must surrender all of ourselves to the Spirit.

Psalm 80 Look Within

As we take our spiritual journey, we should expect to have trials and tribulations along the way. These experiences help us broaden and strengthen our understanding and faith. There are times, however, when we are caught off guard by these troubles and instead of looking within for guidance; we are seduced into relying on external signs for information and direction. Undoubtedly when we make these errors, we experience a great deal of suffering in our lives.

Psalm 25 Grace

One of the most profoundly liberating aspects of the divine/human relationship is the nature of the grace of God. We do not have to be perfect before we receive grace. It does not require us to make amends for our past mistakes (do not remember the sins of my youth or my transgressions). There is no scorecard. We merely have to change our minds and make God the center of our lives.

Psalm 132 True Love

We, as human beings, live our lives constantly in search of love.  The love faculty in us searches and searches until it finds a dwelling place (in the consciousness) for the Lord.  Most of us find ourselves looking in externally rather than looking within ourselves for the answers.  Indeed, this is perhaps the greatest source of unhappiness for humankind.  When we look to other human beings, alcohol, or food for love; we find ourselves in destructive relationships.  Until we get quiet and look within ourselves for that spark of the Christ presence, we will never find that love that satisfies our craving.  

God’s takes up permanent residence in our heart, mind and soul in the Christ center (ark) in our consciousness.  Our innate gifts are spiritualized through love and the result is right use of God given talents (righteousness).  As we attain a deeper understanding of the divine, the process of refining and purifying that love intensifies.  

God has chosen love’s abode as the divine resting place.  Our ideas of a selfless nature (poor) will receive the substance of life (bread) and grow and prosper.  The guidance of the intellect (priests) must be based in conscious and right use of God given attributes (salvation).  Through the inspiration of Spirit (anointed), our path is lit (lamp).  God’s love is the only love that will make us whole.  Once we begin to understand the abundance of God’s love for it and us becomes part of our being; we are at peace, and know we are love and are loved.
And so it is! Amen!

Psalm 16 Divine Protection

One of the most important aspects of a relationship with the Divine is that it improves the believer’s everyday life. This is commonly referred to as the protection of God. For the faithful there is a perspective on every situation that is beyond the worldly appearance. Without faith in God and the spiritual perspective, the world seems to be an evil place. This prayer of thanksgiving to God is a strong affirmation of faith that there is no good apart from the Divine. The spiritual life offers us the ability to see any circumstance from the divine point of view (holy ones in the land).

Many of us worship false gods: money, prestige, stature, etc. When we keep worldly pursuits foremost in our lives, we make ourselves miserable (multiply their sorrows). These things offer temporary fixes, but in the end they drain us of life (offerings of blood) and cannot satisfy our souls.

When we choose the inner path (the Lord is my chosen portion and my cup) and we willingly surrender to Divine will, we find ourselves satisfied with the way that our life has turned out because we have all that we want, need, and some things we never dreamed of (the boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places). We can claim our abundant Divine inheritance (goodly heritage).

As we embrace the guidance of the Lord, even when things are unclear or befuddled (night) the power and presence of the Christ within (heart) leads us in the right direction. With God at the core of our every thought and feeling (keeping the Lord before me), we cannot be swayed or confused.

When we allow our lives to be led by Spirit, we can be certain that we too can reap the fruits of our Divine inheritance (fullness of joy, pleasures). We are secure in heart, soul, and body because we have been shown the spiritual journey rather than being left to the death of the worldly concerns. God's path is the path to eternal life.

Psalm 127 Our Foundation

Frequently, we encounter people who believe that they are the masters of their own successes. They will not acknowledge a higher presence at work in their lives. They toil away at their lives attempting to reach greater heights. These are inevitably the same people who find themselves in a great mess in their lives at some point, because instead of identifying with their spiritual nature, they have identified themselves with some worldly thing (money, job title, familial role, etc.). Once the world as they know it has been taken away from them, they struggle to find meaning in their lives.

The only thing that we can be sure of in this world is change. To build a foundation for our life that is so transient is asking for trouble. The way to find peace and security is in a relationship with the Divine. God is the unchangeable Presence that brings the gift of peace of mind (sleep). 

The fruit of trusting in God is the multitude of Divine ideas with which we are entrusted (sons are indeed a heritage from the Lord). These are the inklings and glimpses that we receive when we take the time to listen to the Christ within us. God constantly provides us the opportunity to participate in the activity of Spirit, but in order to hear we must be actively, and intentionally receptive. Even the most casual Divine idea has great potency (like arrows in the hand of a warrior). These are the ideas that transform our lives and the world for the better.

For all of the effort we put into life, if we redirect that effort to reconnecting to our spiritual Source, the rest of the pieces of life will fall into place with ease. From this grounding we “find our place in the world.” We experience a sense that we are where we are supposed to be, doing what we are supposed to be doing. We find great meaning and purpose in our lives. We have our quivers full.

And so it is! Amen!

Psalm 146 Trust in God

Human beings are strange creatures in that we trust that the sun will rise and set but do not trust in the omnipotence, omniscience and omnipresence of God. No other creature in all of creation has less than absolute faith in Spirit; that which is behind, within and around everything we experience. It is absurd for us to trust in the sun but not trust in God. Each and everyday we are confronted with the miracles that are proof of this Presence, yet we question.

Psalm 34 Lessons for Life

One of the most challenging aspects of the spiritual life is that the Divine requires a blank canvas (poor soul), on which to paint its perfect portrait. We must approach God with pure humility, laying aside our personal will, in the search for true spiritual understanding. Any troubles we experience are only a reflection of our erroneous beliefs of our separation from God and each other. We experience separation primarily when we become deeply self-centered. When we choose to make ourselves our center, our connection to God fades.
