Psalm 96 All Things Old Are Made New

The irony of the world is that the more things change the more the stay the same. Our planet is undergoing dramatic change the likes of which has never been seen before. Technological advancements have created an environment in which many of us are suffering from information overload. There is no sign of an ebbing of the rapid pace of transformation. In the midst of all of this turmoil, there is a source of stability and permanence in our lives should we choose to embrace it. God is our refuge in a world of chaos.
In Spirit there is the reliability of Principle. We have the Law and the guidelines with which we can most effortlessly navigate our lives. On a macro level we know the basics:

As you believe, you shall receive.
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
As within, so without.

On the other hand, this Divine Principle is an infinitely creative force and the specific outcomes of the law are constantly changing. Our God is the creative force behind all that we behold. As with all things of a spiritual nature, there is no absolute way to describe God. If we can say God is unchanging; from another perspective we can just as easily say that God is constantly changing. And that is how it should be with a God that is all encompassing.

In Psalm 96, the writer joyfully embraces the new life in God. We sing a new song to the Lord, when we reach a deeper appreciation of our relationship to God. That new level of understanding becomes evident in all aspects of our external world (earth). We bless His name at any time that we fulfill our spiritual potential. Salvation is not a one time event. We experience salvation every moment that we turn away from error and towards God. When we declare our oneness with God (glory), we appreciate God’s presence in all things in our lives (his marvelous works). Spirit is all there is (great) and it is our responsibility to build our knowledge of Its Presence and Power in our lives. If we are to truly worship God, we cannot hold on to any forms of negation. Jealousy, greed, fear, and hate (idols) have no place in our lives. Only life affirming thoughts and activities are consistent with spiritual consciousness. God created the perfect idea of humanity but it is up to us to manifest that ideal. The way in which we do that is by remaining in touch with our divine core in the sanctuary of our soul.

As we give our lives to Spirit in the understanding of our oneness with God (glory), we bring the only offering that is required; our receptive heart and mind. We can expect changes in our lives whether or not we decide to live in harmony with Spirit. When there is turmoil around us (tremble before him, all the earth), we need to discern that we are whole and perfect and that all is well (worship the Lord in holy splendor). God must be the focus of our thoughts (The Lord is king). In Spirit there is a constancy of knowing that all things are as they should be at any point in time. God can only work in and through us to the extent to which we choose to cooperate with Divine guidance (judge the peoples with equity). When we fully (heavens, earth, seas and forests) embrace God’s Law rather than trying to fight it; we can have peace of mind knowing that our lives are unfolding in the right and perfect way. Even though the specific manifestations of the law are constantly changing there is only one Truth that has been and always will be. We must embrace the new in our lives, knowing that behind it all is the Presence and Power of God that is unchanging.

And so it is! Amen!
