Psalm 30 The Great Physician

English: Holistic health, body, mind, heart, soul
Is it God’s will for us to experience health? Doctors who understand will tell you that they do not and cannot heal. The medical profession has been trained in some protocols that may (or may not) hasten the process of healing. But healing is a process that the created Universe seems to be bathed in. There is a healing Presence that we have the opportunity to experience in all facets of our lives.

As we get comfortable in our relationship with God, we tend to become complacent and even at times arrogant (I shall never be moved). To be in right relationship to God requires that we be transformed. While it is God’s will that we know health, we experience dis-ease when we resist that process of change and growth. Scientists have shown that disease in the body is precipitated by dis-ease in the mind and soul. The things of the world are transient. When we base our feelings of prosperity and security on the things that we have “built” in the world, we experience trials in our lives (you hid your face). These tests can either dismantle our faith or help us to deepen our understanding and faith. We cannot only be steadfast in the good times; we must maintain our faithfulness despite the appearance of challenges.

We are created in God’s image and likeness in order that we may become instruments of God’s will. It is easy for us to lose sight of this truth and become dismayed. This pain precedes the breaking of dawn and our reconnection to God’s joy. Faith affirms that all things are working together for good and for God. To be healed is to be made whole through conscious connection with God and God’s will for us. It is a manifestation of an inward orientation towards the Divine.

Once we turn our thoughts from the negative tapes about our lives that we play over and over again (repent) and rededicate ourselves to our faith (made supplication), our minds and hearts are opened to seeing the good that God intends for us. It may or may not look like our personal idea of health. There are many people who seem to be the picture of physical health, who have deep dis-ease in their souls. And there are others, who may not meet the worldly idea of perfection in physical form, but who know the peace that passes all understanding and glow from within. In surrendering to the Divine vision for our lives, we are clothed with the joy of wisdom. When we connect with that Christ presence within us through prayer and praise, we are made whole again in body, mind and soul.

And so it is! Amen!
