Once we turn our burdens over to God our responsibility is to wait on the Lord. Waiting is easiest if we are in a receptive and listening mode for Spirit. In communion with God, we release all false beliefs, we acknowledge God as the only Power and Presence in our lives (you destroy those who speak lies), and we approach God in Truth (evil will not sojourn with you, the boastful will not stand before your eyes, you hate all evildoers).
Once we identify error thoughts, true thoughts can replace them. God’s active, creative, saving loving-kindness (chesed) is the principle at the core humanity’s relationship with God. As a result of embracing this chesed, we open ourselves to being led by Spirit to a right relationship (righteousness) with God. Of course to get there, we all struggle with our ego, self-centeredness, and all of the patterns of thought not based in Truth (enemies). Thoughts generated by the ego have no basis in spiritual reality (for there is no truth in their mouths). And at their core, they are destructive and a barrier to abiding in the Presence of God.
Their throats are open graves. This is very powerful imagery describing the destructive nature of our words and thoughts. The throat is the seat of creativity because thoughts and words are the creative medium through which we shape our existence. Words, spoken from the perspective of ego rather than Spirit, cause death (separation of spirit, mind and body). The psalmist desires to walk the straight and narrow path of Truth (make your way straight before me). This sincere inward spiritual journey is the only way to reconnect with our higher selves and know God.
As we begin to see the first rays of Light, we become protected (spread your protection over them), by realigning ourselves with the Power of God’s Presence (those who love your name may exult in you). All those who do so will claim the Divine inheritance of joy, health, and prosperity (you cover them with favor as with a shield).
And so it is! Amen!
