Psalms 42 & 43 Altar Living

We all encounter times when we have doubts about our faith, particularly during difficult circumstances. Rather than allowing ourselves to get into a frame of mind that God is not with us, we must remember to see God in all circumstances, even those that on the surface appear to be evil or tragic. Believers know that Spirit is working in everything and is working for good. If we can look back at our lives objectively, we recall the many times that the guidance of Spirit led us through dark times and remember how when the experience was over we were grateful for the resulting good.


Even the as most sincere seekers, we all find ourselves struggling with our faith. Despite our appetite for the things of Spirit, we just cannot seem to pull ourselves out of our worldly state of mind and feeds only on our tears. We believe ourselves to be separate from God (when shall I come and behold the face of my God) and therefore cannot find peace of mind. At some point in our journey, we all struggle with overcoming negative attitudes in the subconscious mind (the deep, Jordan). All we need to do is to put the self away and allow Spirit flow through us again. Even during these dark times (night), the thought of God is still with us. But if we focus on our perceived separateness from God, we cannot see our way to the light. So our soul will remain disquieted.

When we are struggling to find our bearings, only the light and truth of God that can lead us out of the mire. The holy hill is the place from which we catch a glimpse of the “God’s eye view” of the situation. When God’s truth has been revealed to us, clarity of purpose overshadows our problems and we experience joy and rest.

In the light of God’s wisdom we can turn inward (go to the altar) to praise God. If he would praise God now, in his time of need, he would find his suffering remedied.
The psalmist does not recognize that God is waiting for him to turn to Him in the knowledge that he is one with God.

If we wish to be healed of our suffering we must be willing to go to the altar in right relationship (in a consciousness of oneness with God) and ask for our inheritance. It is not enough to know about God’s nature, we must live each moment of each day in the spirit of that knowledge. Being a Christian is an active not a passive state of being.

So I say to you, Ask, and it will be given you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you. For everyone who asks receives, and everyone who searches finds, and for everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.  Luke 11:9-10

All things that we earnestly (in altar consciousness) ask for shall be given to us.
