Psalm 91 Protection

By Victorgrigas (Own work) [CC-BY-SA-3.0 (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0)], via Wikimedia CommonsTo live in the shelter of the Most High and abide in the shadow of the Almighty, means to turn our life over to God and turn our thoughts to Spiritual things.
When we dwell in the consciousness of the Christ, we dwell in the house of the Lord. By turning our thoughts to Truth, we establish the seeds of faith (v. 2). Once we have faith there is no fear, for in the spiritual realm the opposite of fear is faith, not courage. But it is our choice to “make our home in God.”

Faith will deliver us from the traps that our minds set for us (the snare of the fowler and the deadly pestilence). We are our own worst enemy during challenging situations. Our mind jumps to conclusions based on erroneous assumptions in an attempt to analyze and resolve the situation. If we act on this information, we end up creating more problems than we had in the beginning. God’s faithfulness is the only armor that we need. In God's care, we need not fear conscious (the arrow that flies by day, destruction that wastes at noonday) or unconscious (terror in the night, pestilence that stalks in darkness) error thoughts.

The process of spiritual development is one in which as we grow in understanding, we experience the death of old error states of mind (a thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand) . At times it seems as though the world as we know it is crumbling around us. However we must understand that in all of the turmoil, the true spiritual core of our being is safe (but it will not come near you). When we look with our spiritual eye (eyes), we can allow Spirit to handle every situation. Error thoughts (wicked) cannot persist because they are not based in reality. So as we bring them into the light, they lose their power.

If we make Christ consciousness our abiding place, we cannot be separated from God (evil). Evil is merely a temporary state of mind (tent) that has no basis in Truth. Once we enter into a faith-filled relationship with God, spiritual ideas (angels) fill our consciousness. These ideas give us the means to conquer life (lion) and worldly consciousness (adder, serpent).

In vv. 14-16 we hear the voice of God. These verses reveal a very intimate relationship between human beings and God. To “know the name” in biblical time meant to know the very essence of the person. When we know the true character of God, we are protected. In essence God is love, therefore when we “know” love, we are by definition claiming our spiritual birthright of health, happiness and prosperity (salvation). We find this love, when we sincerely seek to be one with our own true, spiritual nature.

And so it is! Amen!
